Use this as part of your normal hygiene routine. Wet hands, apply a pump or two of the postbiotic hand wash, and massage into a sudsy lather. After about 30 seconds, rinse, and pat the skin dry. We recommend following up with our postbiotic hand cream immediately after to help retain moisture. Avoid eye contact.
Is it appropriate for sensitive skin?
The ingredients we chose for our formulas are known to be well tolerated by most individuals. We also chose many ingredients that are commonly used to soothe reactive skin. But everyone has sensitivities unique to their skin. So we encourage potential buyers to evaluate the ingredient list prior to purchasing to make sure that they are not personally reactive to any botanical. At this time there is no legal definition or regulation of “hypoallergenic,” “sensitive skin safe,” or “allergen-free” in the cosmetic world: that means you must be diligent about reading the product label to ensure you don’t come into contact with your particular allergens.
Additionally, fragrance ingredients—no matter if they are essential oils, naturally-derived, or synthetic—can be irritating to some skin types. This is why dermatologists encourage those with very sensitive skin to always find fragrance free personal care products.
Can I trust the preservative system?
In our formulas, we use a natural, patented preservative system known as Geogard Ultra®. It is a synergistic blend of gluconolactone and sodium benzoate that not only has broad spectrum preservation efficacy, but can actually contribute to skin hydration. Most organic preservation acids are too weak on their own and require a co-preservative. In this case, gluconolactone acts as a booster for sodium benzoate by time-releasing gluconic acid so it can be more effective for longer periods of time. The blend is in compliance with ECOCERT/COSMOS, NATRUE and the Soil Association.
Preservatives get a bad name in the beauty space. And while you’re in your right to be wary of certain preservatives (like those with evidence of endocrine disrupting properties), preservatives are a needed component of any water-based formula: water is a breeding ground for bad bacteria. We believe that products should be free from all harmful ingredients—and we consider pathogenic bacteria to be part of that list.
Why don’t you include probiotics in the formula?
We are firm believers in biotic ingredients for both topicals and supplementation: Through research we have seen how highly beneficial these actives can be for overall health. We chose not to include probiotics (and only used pre- and postbiotics) in our personal care collection because mounting evidence shows that most live organisms cannot survive in topical products. This is due to two reasons: First, most lotions and creams contain preservative systems, which are shown to kill most types of probiotics. Second, the shelf-life and use of topicals is much longer than that of supplements, so by the time the product is finished—we can not ensure that the probiotics would still be useful. Due to the new developments in the biotic space, we decided that the most advanced and effective form to include was postbiotics. Additionally, we decided to add prebiotics to further enhance the microflora and make our formula more robust.
Are there any clinical tests or research for this formula’s efficacy?
We used innovative, high-tech active ingredients that were rigorously tested by their manufacturers for efficacy and safety. For example, the postbiotic ingredient (as Kalibiome Sensitive was shown in ex vivo tests to improve epidermis integrity resulting in a more efficient skin barrier function and moisture level increase compared to a placebo. Additionally in In Vitro tests, it was shown to modulate specific interleukins that are involved in inflammation reduction and skin rejuvenation. The prebiotic ingredient (as ALGAKTIV BioSkin®) was shown in tests to revitalize the skin, even outperforming epidermal growth factor (EGF), while aiding in balancing the microbiome and calming the skin.
What is the stability & shelf-life of this product?
We have gone through rigorous stability testing to ensure a shelf-life for up to two years. Every single one of our products has gone through testing in the following areas: physical and chemical testing, packaging stability, accelerated aging, and microbial testing. We did not move forward with any formula until it was able to pass all four of these tests.
