The time of day is ultimately up to you, but we do suggest taking your daily eye health+ capsule with a meal or soon after (i.e., within 30 minutes of a meal). Reason being: Our eye health+ formula is chock full of carotenoids including, astaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, and saffron crocins and crocetins (which are fat-soluble phytonutrient compounds by nature) so taking this supplement around the time or soon after a meal helps facilitate optimal absorption of these plant bioactives.*

MPOD stands for macular pigment optical density. This objective and validated metric is the main status biomarker for measuring lutein and zeaxanthin carotenoid (macular pigments) levels in the macula of the eye. It’s a measure of visual carotenoid status. The concentration of lutein and zeaxanthin in the eye (specifically the macular, where they are deposited and work hard to preserve and protect our eyes) is strongly correlated with eye health and visual performance. Lutein, zeaxanthin, and an isomer of zeaxanthin known as meso-zeaxanthin (i.e., referred to collectively as lutein and zeaxanthin) are the only carotenoids found in the macula of your eyes, which shows how critical they are for this most central portion of the retina, for macular and structural function (responsible for central vision, color vision, and discerning fine details). Interestingly enough, macular lutein and zeaxanthin concentrations are 1,000 times higher than blood levels of lutein and zeaxanthin, demonstrating their essential need in this particular organ, our eyes!
